Impact

At Farm Raiser Urban Farm, we are driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to fresh, nutritious food, meaningful opportunities, and a sense of community. Our farm is more than just a place to grow produce – it’s a hub for connection, community and learning.

What we do

  • Wooden shelves display fresh vegetables including beets, fennel, radishes, spring onions, parsnips, and cauliflower, with handwritten price tags.

    Dignified food relief

Our on-site farm shop ensures that fresh, chemical-free produce is accessible to everyone. We offer concession pricing and a no-questions-asked, dignified food relief program, providing a respectful and welcoming environment for all community members. Through partnerships with organisations like Launch Housing and BANSIC, we also donate fresh food directly to those who need it most.

    Inclusive Education and Vocational Training

Each week, we host students from Waratah Special Developmental School, creating hands-on learning experiences tailored to their skills and needs. These sessions empower students with disabilities to build confidence, learn new skills, and connect with nature in a supportive setting.

  • Several large yams with dirt on them are arranged on grass in front of woven baskets and a patterned blanket at an outdoor market.

    Growing Culturally Appropriate Crops

We actively engage with our diverse community to understand their food preferences and needs. Based on interviews and surveys, we grow culturally appropriate food crops that reflect the traditions and tastes of our community. This ensures our produce resonates with the people we serve, fostering a deeper connection between the farm and its community members.

    Building Community Connections

Social isolation is a growing issue, and our weekly volunteer program is designed to combat it. By bringing people together to work on the farm, we create opportunities for connection, purpose, and shared achievement.

Our school excursions inspire the next generation by focusing on regenerative agriculture, water systems, healthy eating, and the importance of local food systems and community connections. Students leave with a deeper understanding of how their choices impact the environment and their communities.

    Healing Through Horticulture

In partnership with the Northern Centre Against Sexual Assault and the Australian Chinese Charity Foundation we host therapeutic horticulture sessions for survivors of sexual assault. These sessions provide a safe and nurturing environment where participants can engage with the healing power of nature, rebuild confidence, and find peace through hands-on gardening

    Environmental Stewardship

We are committed to regenerative and organic farming practices that care for the soil, plants, and surrounding ecosystem. Our urban location minimises food miles, and we eliminate plastic packaging and harmful chemicals, ensuring our operations are as kind to the planet as they are nourishing for our community.
